Video Poem Step 5

Today we will turn toward revising our video poems and poetry bibliography.

To get started, you can look over a few of the poem of your peers:

  • Noah's poem does well at opening with a title and creating a mood.
  • Will's poem does well at mixing imagery to create a nice sense of flow
  • Sam's poem uses varied fonts and breaks up the pacing of the delivery of the text well.
  • Dylan's poem does well at creating an audio collage

These all have other nice qualities, as well as some areas that can be strengthened. Look them over, and think about the reviews you have conducted. Also keep in mind these recommendations:

  • Clean up any watermarks; you can crop them out and then scale up the clips; you can always replace clips if needed.
  • Standardize and be aware of the placement of the clips on the canvas. If there are black bars on the sides or other aspects of the clips that vary, scale them to fill the whole screen or to be consistent.
  • Watch for the pacing of the text. Make sure all elements are on screen long enough for viewers to process. Check for legibility of fonts. Also check the spelling of all of the text with the poem text.
  • Include a title and author for the poem either at the beginning or end.
  • Fade out any audio and generally polish the details of the piece.

After watching the samples above and reviewing the feedback on your own poem, make your revisions. When finished, share the file and post the revision to YouTube or Vimeo.

For your feeder 3.1 assignment. Use the bibilography you started for your poem, and then add the sources you have used in your video. Format all of it using MLA style.

Once you have the poem and bibliography revised, submit them.
