Science Podcast Step 4

Today there are two major activities. First, we will process the feedback that has been posted to our podcast scripts. Follow these steps:

  1. Look over all of the comments that have been posted on your script.
  2. Also think over your own experience giving feedback on the scripts of your peers.
  3. Look over your script and read it again with all of the comments and your experience in mind.
  4. Finally, send me an e-mail message: 1) write a sentence or two summarizing what you have learned about scripts based on your peer review activities and drafting and 2) write a sentence or two summarizing your plans for strengthening your script as you make revisions.

Once you have thought over and sent my a summary of your plans, you can begin working on the revisions of your script.

Our second main activity is to continue drafting the audio elements of the podcast. For that, you will want to focus on getting good quality audio for the narrative components of the project. To help with that, first, watch this video tutorial:

Next, open a new audacity project, and experiment with reading the first few sentences of your podcast script. As you record, experiment with your distance from the microphone. Also pay attention to the environment--turning off distracting noises, etc. Finally, use some of the basic adjusting moves: Effect > Amplify to change volume; Effect > Change Pitch for tone; Effect > Compressor for manipulation of sound quality. Take as much time as needed to get as clean a copy with good quality as you can.

Next, save your voice snippet as an mp3 file: File > Export > Export as mp3.

Finally, upload your mp3 file to our web site.

For homework, complete the two tasks above and continue working on your script and audio composition.
