For this feeder assignment, you will identify a poem that you want to analyze for this unit. Follow these steps:

Identifying a poem. The poem should be something that has been written about by scholars or the public. You will be writing an explication of the poem that requires you to find some sources, so it should not be something too obscure. You may already have a favorite poem or poet. If not, explore some poems on the following sites:

These are just a few options. You can also search online or use poetry or literature anthologies. Explore until you find a poem that you have an interest in.

Finding articles.  Next, go to the library web site and conduct some searches related to the poem. You will be looking for some articles that discuss the poem. For this element, you may want to start with this link on the library site that gives you leads on humanities/literature sources.

Find at least two articles related to your poem. Download the articles and document their sources using MLA style. If you can't find sources, you will need to go back and choose a new poem.

Finding imagery. Finally, using the web, search for videos that contain imagery that might be related to your poem. For this task, you can be flexible about what you choose in terms of the meaning of the poem. For instance, a poem about a red wheelbarrow might actually have a message that could be delivered with imagery showing the weather or couples walking on a beach. You don't have to pick imagery that is absolutely or directly referenced in the poem.

Your imagery should also be visually compelling. Interesting footage with striking visuals will go a long way toward expressing your interpretation of the poem. Find at least four videos that have potential footage for your project.

After you have 1) identified a poem, 2) found two articles related to the poem, and 3) found four videos with imager, compose a bibliography. The bibliography should list the poem you will be studying and all of the articles and video sources. You will format these items using MLA style. Submit the bibliography as a document using our Feeder 3.1 Poetry Sources and Materials link.
