  • The essay uses a lot of articles that are scholarly. All of these articles are being cited.
  •  The essay does zoom in on the poem. This poem seems about different views of the civil war.
  • The one concern that I have about the essay is to fix some capitalizations
  • MLA style is followed
  • The quotations are being put in good

1. Good use of scholarly articles that introduce or tie in information well.

2. I like how you zoomed in on each stanza and for parts went line by line. I do think this is a great interpretation of the poem comparing this boat returning in victory, to Abe Lincoln and slavery.

3. Do you think the actual structure of the lines in the poem represent anything? Include a conclusion paragraph to summarize analysis and last thoughts.

4. MLA style is all good

5. Great use of quotations and all properly cited. Sometimes too much quoting and could use some of own thoughts and opinions.

- Yes, the citations and quotations used from the scholarly articles provide the evidence needed to strengthen the essay.

- The essay does not lack citations and quotations; however, my only potential suggestion is as one goes further into the essay there are not as many citations while the beginning is full of them.  This is not a major concern but it may be best to space them out.

Yes, extremely well.  The essay analyzes many of the lines of “O Captain! My Captain” creating a detailed picture of Walt Whitman’s vision.

- Yes, the details provided within the essay offer the reader with a clear understanding about Whitman’s vision and purpose for the poem.

- I completely agree with the interpretation of the poem.  Prior to reading this essay I would not had enough knowledge about the background and deeper meaning of the poem to speak on the interpretation but now that I do I find the interpretation to be accurate.

- I do not have any major concerns.  Other than the citations being spread out and that being simply a minor suggestion I have nothing negative to say.  The material and evidence within the essay are solid and the writing alone is well done.

- Also, check the following mechanical aspects of the essay. (If you need to track down information on any proper formats or details, follow MLA style.)
