Watch the video and read the About materials at the link below, and then respond with a comment to this posting by thinking about writing in that brings together words, moving images, and sound. What does composing like this open up or make difficult? What might moving beyond print expectations do to the way you create your video poem?

Truing video response- Emily E
When you have all these sounds, images, and words blending, it can make it difficult to create a video that makes sense and gets at anything. You have to find the right balance between audio levels, color, how fast you type, and the type of video. Moving beyond the print expectations leaves room for more interpretation over what a simple video or photo could. Using it the right way can create more depth to your point.

This technique is something that seems very difficult to get right. If any part of it is off by just a little bit, nothing would make sense and it would be too confusing to get your message across. However, if it is done correctly, it can have a very strong affect. The message of the video would have a much larger presence with all of the aspects of the video coming together in sync. Moving beyond print expectations will allow for more interpretations, and every viewer would have the chance to see something different from their initial interpretation.
Video Response
The video shows how having multiple videos and audio sources makes the project more confusing to the viewer. It is harder to make a cohesive project in video than it is in paper. Blending audio and video clips in a flawless way helps to put the message out there. Allowing different interpretations from the editing is what makes video such a powerful media to communicate a message.
Video Response
One thing I noticed about this video is that when you are creating your project you should be careful not to use to many audio clips at the same time. This would confuse the viewer as to what they are watching. You also have to be very technology savy to put together a video like this and to get your point across without confusion. Going further than whats expected is kind of a hit or miss with creating these kind of videos because on one hand you could be getting your point across and creating a connection between the viewer and the video. On another hand you could have the viewer completely lost and have no idea of whats going on.

This video did a good job of showing a lot of visuals. There is also a lot going on. The 4 videos on the screen made it hard to focus on one thing going on. Composing like this seems difficult because we have to make sure there is not too much going on. Moving beyond expectations could make a poem really cool and fun to watch. I am very open to creativeness.
This video and corresponding…
This video and corresponding article really impressed upon me the importance of balancing the different pieces of media I use in my video. It is a careful balance between audio and visual, which is made even more complex by including the words printed on the screen. It all has to flow and blend together in an inspiring yet not overwhelming way. I was thinking about doing this before, but this reading really made me sure that the best course of action is to create the sound first. If I mix my sound effects, my music, and my recitation beforehand, I can be sure that the emphasis is placed where I want it. Then, I can build the video around the sonic representation of the poem. I think the audio is the most important because that's what is really going to impress the reader with the poem's meaning. Plus, I am planning to use a song with lyrics that I want the viewer to pay attention to. This way I can make sure that the correct emphasis is being placed on every aspect of the piece.
With watching this video,…
With watching this video, and reading the article, I have learned that it is very necessary to make sure that there is not an immense amount of multiple different components going on at one time during any point of my video poem. Not having the correct ratio between audio, visuals, and text, can cause for an extremely negative outcome, and therefore harm your project way more than it will help. During some cases, less might be better, however, it is always good to remember to have a good balance between it all.
AHHHHHHH
I have so many thoughts and feelings about this video. I tried to start by just reading the text under About, but it didn't make sense so I watched the video, then re-read the About section. I don't know what to think of the video. It's almost revolutionary in the way I think about my poem adaptation going forward. The overlapping of the sound and visuals is an overwhelming amount of stimuli. But I think it almost works? I really don't know. My initial reaction was pure confusion. I'm still confused, as I don't know what to take away from it other than the various elements that went into composing the video. At the same time, it is original; the entire thing was unexpected, there was constantly changing stimuli that kept me engaged, and it left me feeling so many different emotions. I liked it, and while there are some aspects of the video that I will surely bring into my own (changing visuals, overlapping audio), it is far too complex and complicated to emulate.

I think the styles presented in this article are very creative and difficult. Having four videos on screen and text going in and out can be very intimidating and overwhelming for most viewers but I think if this style is done right it can be incredibly effective. Having videos and images work off each other at the same time will be much more of an attention grabber than single images working by themselves. But, I do this this creative edge comes with the risk of overwhelming if not done completely right.
Video Respon
This video taught me how with multiple clips and audios playing at the same time, timing is really important and must be thought through. You don't want one video to be too overpowering, however you don't want any random silences. You also want to make sure when you include text it is well timed and doesn't distract you from any important components from the videos. This is definitely a very difficult and time consuming technique to create a video, but if you get it just right, then it can make a project much more powerful.
Video Response
Bringing so many components together can be very confusing. I never knew what to focus on. It is very creative to combine the videos and words, and when understood, can be very successful. It also seems to be faster-paced because there are so many parts, which can keep the viewers on their toes. By moving past expectations, it can surprise people and open their minds and get a deeper understanding.
My takeaway from the video…
My takeaway from the video is that sometimes, less is more. With so many different components, it's important to find a good balance in audio and video so that views are not overwhelmed and the message is clear. However, it is important to add creativity so that viewers are still entertain and engaged.
Video Response
While first watching the video I was very confused as to what was going on. Although, after reading the About materials it all became very clear and changed my way of thinking about doing the poem video. The use of all of the sounds and images at the same time could be off when done wrong, but when done correctly it could change the whole feeling of the video. The combination of the sounds and visuals adds depth to the video and allows for a deeper and more intellectual interpretation of the poem itself. By moving beyond print expectations, I will be able to include more deeper meaning images and sounds into the video which will allows for a clearer understanding as to what the poem is trying to say.
Video Response
The biggest piece to this video was all of the different sounds from different videos playing making it hard to comprehend what is being said in really one of the videos let alone one. The different visuals at once I think is pretty cool but the audio is huge to me and threw me off big time. It had an advanced meaning but it was confusing to me. Less can be more at times and in this video I think that's the case. I might be missing something but that's how it felt to me. It does open up some idea of combining videos to help explain my poem though.
Truing response
I think the video and the following article that explains the process of creating it were very helpful in the context of our video assignment. One of the biggest takeaways from the video was its management of audio, visual, and at some points, text. The audio was layered very carefully in that each different audio track was discernible throughout the video in a way that does not sound crowded or as if there's too many sounds at once. I also found the variety of visuals very complementary to each other. At around 7 minutes in, there's two videos visible of the guy and girl singing along with two videos that show two different forms of "bubbles". The visuals juxtapose each other while also being complimentary which I think would be interesting to experiment with in the poetry videos. Some of the test videos we watched in class took the approach of showing multiple visuals at once, too.
video response
After watching this video, I believe that this format would be very difficult to get correct. First off, I think that there are too many moving parts which distracts the viewer. Although it is creative, there isn't a clear path or message it is giving, which would make the audience confused. The combination of words, moving images, multiple videos, and sound are overwhelming. I would suggest using only two of these four methods. Even then, it would be pretty difficult to get correct.
Video Response
This video has great ideas but they are not brought together nicely. I think the it needs to be balanced throught the video. It seemed as if they tried to add too many components at once. This video does seem hard to compose though because of all the different aspects within the video. If the details were balanced and situated I believe it would be a very well composed video.
Video Response
All the different videos playing at once was confusing at first. But after the video I realized they were all related to the text in some way were it was bees flying around or someone talking about a bicycle wheel. The video kept my attention because there was always something to look at. I think it was interesting how they used multiple videos in one that way if you didn't understand one video and how it fit with the words there were three other options.
