Today we will get rolling on our video poetry unit. Our first task will be to download and install a screen capture tool we will use for this project and then to gather materials to create the video poem.
1. The first option to try is an online screen recorder which will be easiest to install and use:
If you go to this link: https://www.apowersoft.com/free-online-screen-recorder?__c=1 you will be asked to download a launcher program--don't download the desktop version. Once you download the launcher, you should be able to capture and save videos.
2. If the option above does not work, then you will want to download the program below to use the screen capturing tools. Follow these steps:
Go to this link https://www.techsmith.com/download/oldversions
On a Mac, use the pulldown menu to select Camtasia for Mac. and then select the 2.10.8 version
On a PC, use the pulldown menu to select Camtasia for Windows, and then select the 8.6.0 version
Once you install the program on your computer, I will give you a code that will hopefully get us access to the program.
3. If you do not have great luck with the options above, you can try to use the OBS recorder. This program takes a little longer to set up, but should give you lots of options once ready.
There are also other options--on a Mac, Quicktime will let you record the screen but will not capture the speaker audio. For a PC, Flashback Express seems like a good option.
Between one of the options above, you should be able to come up with a way of ripping materials.
Once you have a system in place for screen capturing, you can use the rest of class to complete the following tasks:
- Capture at least two short video clips that contain imagery of use for your video. Save the clips to a folder that you will use for this project.
- Download at least two still images from the internet that might be used in the project and save them to the same folder.
- Download a musical selection that might be used in the project and save it to the same folder. I recommend using a site like http://dig.ccmixter.org. If you know of other good sites for free to use and/or ambient music, you can add them as comments to this posting.
Complete the collecting of these media items before the end of class. If you do not finish, you can continue to collect items as homework below.
Homework: complete and continue collecting media to be used in your project. Before class on Wednesday, you will want to sign up for Creative Cloud at UNC: adobe.unc.edu
Once you have signed up, install the Premiere Rush program.
Also before class on Wednesday, spend time learning about the program using the Adobe Rush training resources.
