Today we will go over our visuals and storytelling video assignment. We will begin this project as we wrap up our social media projects.

We will also do an improv activity using phones and phone applications as composing tools. (If you do not have a smart phone, partner with a fellow classmate.)

In this activity, you will quickly create an Instagram Story

Complete these steps in class.

  • Download and install the Boomerang for Instagram app. The app captures about 1 second worth of video and creates an animation.
  • Brainstorm ideas for at least a three-part video that will be made up of these one-second bursts. As your brainstorm, develop ideas that include the computer screen and the written word. You might film writing in action. You could capture online materials with interesting moving words. You could film something on a screen with words. The bursts can include images as well. Just try to come up with something that blends motion and quick capturing with language to tell a "story." Quickly come up with a mental storyboard of the bursts you will capture and how they might come together.
  • Work in sequence, and film the first Boomerang animation. Just use your phone camera to film action on the screen. Keep trying until you get a good sense of motion and are satisfied. When ready, Share the burst on Instagram using the Story option.
  • Repeat this process for the remaining segments of the story, checking your Story on Instagram as you go to see how the sequence is coming.
  • When finished, in Instagram open your Story, and, with the Story open, select the More option ... and then Share as Post.
  • Go to the Post in Instagram, and select the More option, and then Copy Link

Finally, with the link to your posting copied, Use the Instagram Posting option to share in on our web site.
