Today, we will conduct an additional practice podcast if anyone wants practice. If not we will explore some of the podcasts that are starting to come in on our site.

Next, we will go over the logistics for editing and submitting your completed podcasts. Here are the basic steps:

  • Take the completed recording of your conversation and import it into Audacity (or you preferred audio editor).
  • Give a quick listen to the exchange and if there are any major tangents or glitches, edit them out.
  • Locate the audio samples that you played during the conversation. Delete the live samples and replace them with higher quality originals.
  • Add introductory and closing music (if desired). http://dig.ccmixter.org has ambient music.
  • Use volume adjustments (Effects > Amplify; Envelope Tool; Channel volume) to make an initial pass over the segments and even out audio levels.
  • Apply Noise Reduction and any other effects to clean up the sound
  • Use Effects > Normalize to do additional evening out of sound
  • Listen to the finished piece, continuing to polish

When satisfied, export the finished product as an MP3 file (or Wav if MP3 won't work). Use this link to upload the completed podcast.

Once we have gone over the podcast and process, we will review our Audio Storytelling assignment.

A key aspect will be identifying an aspect of learning. To get familiar with some possibilities, we will examine a few ways of investigating aspects of learning. The first step is to identify one or two possibilities. Consider concepts like:

  • Creativity
  • Problem Solving
  • Critical Thinking
  • Leadership
  • Communication
  • Collaboration
  • Information
  • Risk taking
  • Adaptability
  • Curiosity
  • Reflection
  • Motivation

You can pick other learning-related terms. Next, go to the UNC Library and conduct searches for your term combined with terms like learning, education, school, etc.

A good strategy is to select the E-Research by discipline link, and then explore options under Education.

Using this approach, you can find some research related to your term that you can integrate into the audio storytelling video.

We will next begin working on our storyboards. To get started, download the template

For homework, use all of the tasks here to complete the submission of your podcast (due Monday) and to move forward with your Audio Storytelling Video (storyboard due next Weds). We will likely use time on Friday to complete these pieces.
