Today we will focus on peer review activities. The first portion will be in class conversation about some of our Twine drafts. We will look at some examples: Thoughts and Fractured Reality. We will also do any troubleshooting that might be needed on the projects.
Next, we will conduct peer review activities. Begin by looking over the grid at the bottom of this posting to find you partners. Once you have your partners picked out, use the rest of the class period and the time before next class to complete the following:
- Explore the Twine projects of your two partners, spending time getting to know each piece.
- Open the posting with the project in a new window or tab and use the comment field to conduct a review. Compose responses to the following prompts:
- First Impressions: First, think about what the project is trying to accomplish. Is it a scary story? A poetry analysis? Some kind of remix? Think about what the piece is truing to do, and then write a few sentences about what seems to be working well.
- Structure: Think about the passages and links in the project. How well does the project move the reader through its materials? Are there passages that seem unnecessarily chopped up? Are there segments that have dead-ends or create too much repetition? Write down your observations about what is working or not working with the structure.
- Functionality: Before answering this question, think about the various Twine functions we have played with in class and others you are aware of. Next, discuss the use of Twine functions in the piece. If the piece makes use of timers or textual play, how well are these moves integrated? If the piece does not use these features, are there places where they might be deployed? Write down what is working well or not with Twine functions.
- Two Holistic Suggestions: Step back and think about the piece as a whole again. What key focuses should there be for revision? What might help most with the goals and structure? What functions might be improved? What about the passages themselves or the writing might be strengthened. Pick one recommendation, and then discuss the piece while spelling out suggestions. Pick one more recommendation, and then make another set of suggestions.
- After you have written up a response to these four prompts, save your comment.
- Repeat this process for the second project you have been assigned. (You can double check the projects you need to review from the list above.
