Today, we will take one more pass at the drafts of our research papers, making sure we all have a good sense of revision needs and logistics for the final submission. We'll start by looking at these few examples:
- Gena's report integrates secondary research well
- Jurnee's report does a nice job of introducing Twitter
- Ben takes an interesting approach to charts
- Tyler's report has good detail and coding decisions
Once we have discussed these and other big picture aspects of the projects, we will move on to thinking about the formatting and surface-level concerns. As we work, it will be useful to have this sample APA research paper for reference.
Some of the technical details you will want to ensure you follow include:
- Using quotations
- Integrating figures
- Headings
- Sources (For the bibliography, use citation tools and refer to the appropriate instructions here for the type of source; you may also want to check the APA web site.)
You will also want to use your word processor to make sure you have the steps down for some formatting aspects:
- Headers and Footers
- Title pages and section breaks
You can use these resources, the feedback you have received, and your revision plans to complete reworking the report. When finished, and before 10:00AM on Sunday July 7th, submit the revised essay using the Community Report Final Version link on our web site.
Once we have reviewed the needs for the essay, we will return to our podcasts.
First we will review the three components of the podcast unit: The podcast bibliography and media (individual); the podcast (group); and the research reflection (individual).
After we have reviewed the big picture assignments, we will conduct a brief experiment to give everyone a better sense of what we are aiming for.
For the rest of the class, we will work in our groups to focus on what's needed to develop your own podcast. I will provide a handout with the steps.
For homework, complete the revision to your Community Report by Sunday at 10:00AM. Also submit the bibliography and media component assignment before class on Monday, July 8th.
