Today we will begin by doing some additional work to prepare for our bibliography and poetry research essays. We will start by looking at some of the poetry choices you have made and examining some research possibilities.
With these possibilities in mind, we will think a bit more about strategies for integrating these into your own research writing, including the dangers of plagiarism. We will also, do an exercise where we think through how best to bring research into your literary essays. As you work on this kind of writing, you can review general information about writing literary analyses.
After we have thought more deeply about working with literary texts, we will again review the bibliography assignment, which is due on Wednesday and the Poetry Research and Analysis Essay, the draft of which is due on Friday.
Once we have reviewed everything required for our poetry essays, we will finally wrap up the work on our podcasts. I will guide us through these steps:
First, download a raw file with the appropriate audio from your group:
- Emily, Olivia, Sameer, Karenna and Liz
- Ben, Jonathan, Joe, Nathan, and Shailyn
- Gena, Natalia, Juia, and Jurnee
- Gabby, Shawn, Tyler, Dominique, and Katie
Next, follow my guidance and help one another as we complete these steps:
- Quick trimming to cut off extra audio
- An initial amplification to increase volume
- By-hand amplification/reduction to smooth out volume levels
- Replacement and fading of any audio samples
- A final Normalization of Audio
- A noise removal filter
- Exporting the edited recording as a ogg file
- Uploading the final product to our class web site
Next, we will do some quick videos to get comfortable with our composing materials and tools for the video poem assignment.
In groups of two, work together to help one another complete the following tasks. (Note if one member of your group had difficulties installing the Adobe Rush program, you can use one computer for this exercise and work together.)
Download onto your computer these files. You will be downloading a "zip" file that you will need to open/uncompress.
Think about this poem:
The Red Wheelbarrow
so much depends
upona red wheel
barrowglazed with rain
waterbeside the white
chickens
Open Adobe Rush, and navigate to the downloaded folder in the media window. Pick items to import--be sure to get some audio as well as video.
Next, to create a video poem using the materials. Import more items if needed. Add titles to deliver the text of the poem. Add music. Do some polishing to fine tune the pacing.
When finished, export (Share) the poem as an mp4 file, and then upload it to our site using the improv video option.
Work quickly, but also try to put together a compelling piece.
For homework, you can continue to work on the research needed to submit your Poetry Bibliography assignment before class tomorrow.
