The Rose Family

Your poem

The rose is a rose,
And was always a rose.
But the theory now goes
That the apple’s a rose,
And the pear is, and so’s
The plum, I suppose.
The dear only knows
What will next prove a rose.
You, of course, are a rose –
But were always a rose.

I really liked your choice of music! I thought it gave the poem an eerie flair. I liked how you used a slowed down video of a rose blooming as you're opening and I also liked the image you used for "For the theory now goes", however I didn't quite understand the image of the couple dancing at the end. It didn't seem to clarify anything about that part of the poem so you might want to switch that clip. Other than that-really good!

I like the stark imagery that opens the piece with the rose on the black background. I feel like the placement of the text on those screens might be adjusted to make full use of the contrast of the background--maybe chunking up the text differently and delivering it with more variety. The switch to the different fruit imagery adds nice variety. I felt like the transitions could more smoother for some of those switches. I also feel like the pacing may be slowed down; again, chunking up the text a bit more and delivering it in pieces might help. In particular, because the text here is over the multicolored backgrounds, smaller bits may help with legibility. I like the imagery of the humans that closes out the piece. I wonder if cutting back to the rose at the end is the best strategy. The switch to people at the end seems to open a nice avenue, so maybe that can her amplified by zooming in on something human, or some other materials. The piece is doing nice things with imagery and the poem is short, so cutting the text up more and delivering it with a bit different pacing will make the flow and feel even stronger. Nice job.
