I liked this E-poem because of how it contrasts nature and man. The video flashes between plant life and animals and a rocket shooting into space. The addition of the old poem lines popping up give the viewer of a sense of something greater, of man being intrinsically connected to nature even as we have technological breakthroughs. It is beautifully edited and the underlying music is perfect.

I loved this E-poem. This piece is unique because it incorporates both written poem and song audio, so the message that is being conveyed is more emphasized. The song sings a metaphor about a bird no longer held captive by a cage, and the poem tells a similar story of independence and freedom. The timing of the poem is incredible. There are perfect moments of space, as well as combination of image visuals, song, and poem, so that the meaning of the project as a whole is maximized.

"Sonder" by Emily Danes

The music selection, video clips, and poem coalesced to produced an intimate, heartwarming experience for the audience. The images aren't a direct literal interpretation of the poem; however, all of the visuals portray humans—the primary subject of the poem. This poem has a sentimental tone, and the E-poem captured this with precision. The E-poem humanized Danes' work and added "flesh" to the stanzas' skeleton.

Where Does the Dance Begin, and Where Does it End?

I watched several of the ePoems on the site, but this one stood out to me as being the most effective. Something about the subtle music combined with the very direct imagery helps the viewer focus intently on the poem rather than distracting them. I found all of the visuals to be very stimulating, beautiful scenes that perfectly match the language of the poem and highlight key ideas within the poem. The classical-type music choice , I feel, also gives the poem both inspirational and timeless qualities which may have not been altogether there in the poem by itself but are really brought to life in this ePoem.

I thoroughly enjoyed this poem as it integrates the message from the poem with a song that has a related metaphor. The overarching themes of being trapped by society and one's own confidence is evident by the poem's description of individuality and freedom, couples with the song's emphasis on a bird unable to fly due to its being trapped in a cage. This combination optimizes both elements and helps convey the deeper meaning of each.

I really liked this E-poem because of its effective use of sound with the calming background music and the visuals with the video clips and moving text. In particular, the transitions of the text and lines stood out to me as an additional effect because it helped emphasize certain words in the poem. I think that the music works well with the tone of the entire poem, and the dynamics of the music correlate with underlying meaning between the lines. All of the scenes seem to connect seamlessly with some being more directly related to the poem's lines and others being more metaphorical.

I found the editor’s delivery of words particularly effective with this E-poem. In the beginning, they delivered each word letter by letter. This editing matched with the slow piano music works really well to set a thoughtful, almost melancholy mood. The video felt very cinematic, with very eye-catching visuals. I really like the combination of both literal representation and more poetic, abstract visuals. Some were almost just a white background, but there was just enough movement to keep the viewer engaged. I also found it interesting that rather than placing all the words in a linear fashion, they used the space of the frame to explore the meaning of the word. For example, for the line “I meditate on the opposite wall”, they placed that specific text on the opposite side of the frame.

I listened to the audio poem "Where Does the Dance Begin" by Kaitlyn Greene. I really liked that particular video poem especially the use of background audio. I thought the background audio really fit the mood of the poem whereas some other video poems I found distracting because they put songs with lyrics in the background. I also really liked the nature video clips which were extravagant enough to fit the scope of the poem.

I liked this video/epoem because the clips that were put together really felt like a storyline that went along with what was written. At the same time it is still a bit abstract enough where you can get different messages from watching it but has imagery that still explains what is going on. I tried to do this with my own e-poem, but I was a bit unsure about how it would go over. However, after watching this one, I feel a bit more confident about my own.

I loved this e-poem for multiple reasons. Firstly, I thought the music was very fitting for the topic. The poem was talking about how surreal nature is, and the song choice very well reflected this theme. Additionally, the song was instrumental (unlike other the music in other video poems), which allowed me to focus solely on the poem without distraction. Second of all, the videos that were used were very well chosen. They were fitting snapshots of nature that did a great job at visualizing the poem.

I really enjoyed this particular e-poem. This poem not only took the poem and used images to represent its literal meaning but also extrapolated more abstract ideas from the literal text itself. The composer did a great job incorporating a huge amount of imagery and it was certainly aesthetically pleasing. There were still images, videos, sound effects, etc that really enhanced the poem. The way the text appears on the screen is also very interesting. The words had a variety of ways that they entered the screen and the author did a great job making them engaging and not distracting. I really appreciated this collection of e-poems because I can use them as inspiration to compose my own in a unique way.

Sonder

I really enjoyed this e-poem because I think that the creator edited the clips together in a way that truly conveyed the feeling you get when you experience 'sonder.' I think that the music that was chosen worked really well with this piece and it wasn't too overwhelming. The main focus of this project was definitely the video clips and everything else was meant to complement it. However, I think that this meant that the poetry wasn't highlighted enough. Overall, I liked the mood of this project and I think that it really went well with the topic.

I really enjoyed this e-poem for the way the creator linked all of the elements together. The video clips worked well to convey both concrete and abstract imagery of the mirror and personal ideals of beauty, while the layering of these clips further helped exemplify the message of the poem. I also really enjoyed the use of aesthetic with the black and white mask over everything and the continuous motif of the dripping water/oil/smoke. The text effects worked wonderfully to help with pacing, and I actually liked reading it how the creator presented it, rather than just hearing it... it added to the overall mood. last but not least, the music choice was perfect for this piece and really just tied it all together.

This poem stood out to me because of the gorgeous natural imagery and the use of a song with lyrics. At first, I thought the lyrics would be too distracting but I feel like they added more dimension to video. There was a good mixture of clips that literally described scenes from the poem and those that showed the mood that it created. Overall, the video was engaging and interesting to watch and it showed that music with lyrics could actually enhance the poem in some cases.

I really enjoyed the uniqueness of this poem. I thought the addition of the song and the lyrics combined really enhanced the meaning portrayed. The mix of literal explanation and figurative explanation also added to the meaning of the poem.

I watched They Shut Me Up in Prose because this is one of my favorite Emily Dickinson poems. I loved the use of birds to symbolize breaking free from one's metaphorical cage and the cinematography was beautiful. The student chose to flash words of the poem on the screen and not read them out loud, using an Avett Brothers song in the background instead. Though I feel this worked well sonically, visually the spacing between each line of the poem is so long I found myself forgetting Dickinson's words and just watching the birds flying instead.

One aspect of this video poem that caught my attention was how well it was edited, I couldn't help but to notice how the video clips used appears as if the creator used one video throughout the duration of the video poem. That is just how well each clip transitions into each other. It appears as if the video was used to make the poem rather than the poem being used to make the video and I really admired that.

I watched Where Does the Dance Begin, and Where Does It End? I really enjoyed this video poem. There were two characteristics of it that gave it a personality that I really enjoyed.

First, I liked watching the words move around the screen seamlessly because it felt like they were dancing, plus the words moved with the images.

Second, I liked how there were videos of people dancing, but only as the poem developed, and it was not dancing dominant. The creator did a good job of portraying dance in more ways than just humans moving.
