Video Poems

  • "The Road Not Taken" is a famous poem often associated with crossroads. My video takes on on of the most important crossroads of an emerging adult's life.

  • The Great Nelson Mandela

  • The legacy of Maya Angelou continues to live on today and one reason for that is her uplifting poem "Still I Rise." This video is my take on the poem, a look at the black girl magic that Angelou describes through the modern day black girl's lense.

  • A tragic story that stems from neglect and loneliness.

  • A poem of love, loss, growth, and rebirth.

  • Royalty is relative... a crown only gleams from the right perspective.

  • "You Want a Social Life, with Friends" is a reflective poem about the balance of life. Is it possible to have love, work, and friends in equal measure?

  • A poem written by my dear friend, Jacky Rojas. She is the figure in the video as well, and her poetry line is called Blooming.

  • Cultural, ethnic, national divides have long been a justification of difference and violence. This poem explores how these differences are a source of strength and beauty as well as the inherent interconnectedness of our shared humanity.

  • This is an e-poem exploring the necessity and beauty of taking leisure time to enjoy the small things in life. As this video illustrates, leisure can be enjoyed and expressed in a variety of different ways and is needed to help balance daily stressors.

  • We all know that feeling. You see that special person from across the room or you walk by each other, and you are suddenly in awe of the beauty of that individual. This is to you...

  • Go back to simpler times and reminisce the good old days. Reconnect your life to the peace and harmony of nature.

  • Beauty and innocence is ruined, when evil enters the world. With evil, there will always be death.

  • What does America mean to you? Are we living the American Dream?

  • Explore the thoughts of William Wordsworth in a modern setting juxtaposing man and nature. While initially separated, the two soon unite.

  • When good and ill,
    And joy and moan,
    Melt into one.

  • Trying to fall asleep can be on of the most daunting, exasperating, and physically painful experiences in one's life. This poem by Car Allen Defelice captures the emotions insomniacs feel during a restless night from fear to sadness to delirium.

  • Not a woman quite. Misunderstood. Not ashamed to die. I have been her kind.

  • She is Girl. She is Gravel. She is Grabbed.

  • Langston Hughes soulfully delivers a statement poem that reflects not only on his life but the lives of many others. Looking at the brighter side of life is essential to life itself.

  • There is no need to worry about making decisions. Alan Watts describes the way to true self confidence and trusting one's own intuition.

  • In July of 2017, Chance the Rapper delivered this poem during an NPR Tiny Desk Concert. As a fan of the usually very private rapper, I was captivated by his vulnerability as he offered everyone a glimpse into his life as a celebrity and family man. I hope you are captivated too.

  • This video poem takes viewers on a mindful journey. This emotional story of life, including the people and experiences associated with it, is shown through a collage of videos. This story shares with us the power of approaching conflict with courage instead of contempt, as well as learning from all people we encounter in our lives.

This revision consists of aesthetic adjustments on components like font and video format.

Portfolio

Compose a portfolio of your work in the class. Before getting started think about these big picture aspects of portfolios:  The portfolio serves two main purposes: 1) to allow continued revision of your projects, and 2) to promote reflection on what you have learned as a writer and thinker in the class. For the purpose of the portfolio composition, the reflections will matter the most--though they will be built upon solid, well-revised projects.

Video Poem Revisions

Here are the steps for completing your video poem revisions:

First, complete the peer review activities for our video poems.

Next, familiarize yourself with the video tutorials related to Adobe Premiere. (Note if you have used iMovie or a non-Adobe video editor, you will have to approximate some of the strategies below as you revise.)

Video Poem

Use a video editor to create an interpretation and analysis of a poem. This assignment will differ from a typical poetry analysis activity in that the final results of your work will be delivered not as an academic essay but as a remixed, video version of the poem you are studying. You are also welcome to compose and remix a poem of your own.
