In this assignment, you will create at least three visual memes that speak to aspects of internet argument.
Follow these steps:
Download Adobe Photoshop. (You can use a different image editor as long as it supports layers.) We will go over aspects of Photoshop in class
Meme image 1: Open Photoshop and create an image that uses one visual element and a textual phrase that creates an ironic, humorous, or critical statement about the visual collage you have created. Aim to have the statement persuade viewers in some way or another.
Meme image 2: Create an image that uses at least two visual elements mixed together using layers. Use strategies of design and visual rhetoric so that the combination of the images itself creates a statement. Add text to create a short caption or textual phrase that makes a further statement about the composition that might move or persuade viewers.
Meme image 3: Challenge. Use your image editor to create a meme that speaks to some aspect of internet argument as its subject matter. This meme can use a single image and text or use multiple layers of visuals to create a composite before adding text.
When finished, use the meme postings option on our web site to share them with the class. You can also post them to Instagram or other social media sites.
The submissions are due on Saturday Nov 2nd.
