Audio Essay Revision

Use the feedback you have received and your experience reviewing the work of your peers to guide you as you revise your audio essay. As you work (in addition to specific suggestions and your own goals) consider:

  • Script. Before re-recording your voice, make any edits to the script. If you can tighten things, do so. If you want to experiment with tone, you can revise. Rework any transitions into clips, etc.
  • The use of audio samples. Make sure any clips are set up well with the narration. Also make sure the sonic transitions into and out of the clips are smooth. Make sure the volume levels of any clips mesh with the audio essay as a whole.
  • Music, ambient noises, or sound effects. Be sure that any samples are smoothly integrated. If you use music, make sure it fades in and out well and that the volume levels are adjusted to not dominate the piece.
  • Narration. Work in a quiet environment for recording. Check out microphones if needed. Experiment with your vocalizationsm keeping volume levels and tone consistent. Experiment with noise reduction and other filters to process the voice after recording. Make sure you don't apply too much in terms of effects so that the voice still has a human quality.
  • Transitions and pacing. Check that the piece does not begin or end too abruptly. Aim to keep a good flow going in terms of pacing. Make sure transitions between segments are clear and smooth.
  • Technical details. Focus on the sonics of the piece, listening for areas where volumes need fine tuning, for any glitches that need smoothing, for fading in and out of materials, for background noise that might be addressed, etc.

Keep all of these concerns and the feedback you have gotten in mind as you revise your work. When finished, export the final version of your project, and then upload it to our web site using the Audio Essay Revision posting type. Complete revisions by Monday, October 28th.
