Monday 10-14

Today, we will reflect on our podcast activities, and then review revision steps for our audio essays. We will start by listening to one of our audio essay samples:

Once we have a quick discussion, we will do some free writing in class.

First, we will create an initial draft posting for your portfolio.

I will walk us through some quick composing, and then we will have a discussion about podcasts versus audio essays.

Once we have spent some time thinking about audio, we will get started with our App Argument assignment.

First, we will do a quick brainstorming exercise using a handout.

Next, we will experiment with some key aspects of using Adobe XD. We will aim to create something like this.

Create a rough design for a basic application: Open XD and use Design mode to create an initial art board using a phone size option. Use the art board tool to create three blank art board screens on the design canvas--a home screen, an about screen that sets up a joke or argument, and a content screen that delivers a punchline or argument.

After you have the three art boards on the canvas, create a text box on the opening screen with a header/name for your app.

Next write some text on the second screen to set up your joke or argument.

Next, add content--text or images--to your third screen to deliver the joke/argument.

Next, create navigation buttons: 1) On the home screen create a circle and text to link to the set-up screen. 2) at the bottom of the set-up screen, create a link to the punchline screen.

When finished, your design canvas should look something like this:

Rough XD Design

Once you have something like this in place, switch to Prototype mode. In prototype mode, select objects by clicking on them once or twice, and then use the arrow connectors to create the links between art boards for navigation.

Once you have all of the links in place, select the Play button at the top right of XD to test your design. Make any adjustments that might be needed.

When finished, use the Share button, and then Share for Review to create a link to your prototype.

Finally, copy the link to your prototype, and then respond to this posting and paste in the address.

If we run out of time, you can continue this experiment for homework.

For homework, complete the app exercise. You can also either continue to work on the App Argument assignment or return to the Audio Essay Revision assignment.
