2-25

Today we will wrap up our audio essay work and move on to thinking about video poetry.

To get started, we will do some free writing to capture our thoughts on the audio essay project. Use this link to add content and create a reflection. In your reflection, write freely to explore these two prompts:

  • Working on the audio essay taught me _______ about writing
  • Working on the audio essay taught me _______ about the way I learn

We will write for 5 minutes or so, and then look at the reading we did from last night.

We may also have time to look at a sample of what we are going to make

For homework, complete this reading assignment. Also download and install Adobe software.

Working on the audio essay taught me that I hate incorporating outside sources into writing. I also really don't like the sound of my voice and had a lot of trouble coming up with an idea that fit the prompt. Working on the audio essay also taught me that this is not how I learn best. I am a visual learner and I don't pay much attention to sound in my daily life, so it was difficult for me to concentrate and focus on just sound. When listening to other audio essays, I find myself drifting to sleep because there's nothing for me to focus my eyes on. After doing this project I learned why I never got into podcasts, why I don't notice the soundtracks in movies, and why I really love film, but don't really care for music.

The essay helped teach me that there are other ways to communicate ideas outside of just content. By utilizing other resources like audio, the audience can get a better idea of what the creator wants to communicate and I think that it becomes more personal. This audio essay taught me about the importance of creativity and personalization.

Working on the audio essay really showed me the technical side of writing. Not only can you produce strong works of fiction that can be read, but one can also produce an essay that can be spoken and posses the same or if not more meaning. Working on this essay taught me that my learning style is dynamic. This class as a whole has really taught me that because of the wide range of projects that we have done already this semester has really broadened my horizons of the world of literature/english.

Working on the audio essay has taught me a breadth of knowledge concerning how to write with a strong, interpersonal voice. Our necessity to write more comprehensively, rather than academically, gave me the opportunity to really explore different writing techniques and convey messages in order for these to be most receptive in a social and academic environment.

My experiences with this assignment have taught me about the progressive way I learn. I have never worked with podcasts or audio projects before, nor have I worked with Audacity, so this was all very new to me. I learned I worked best when I continually draft projects and learn about the capabilities of audio incorporated into essays. Constantly revising and best understanding my work through peer reviews gives me the best opportunity to progress.
