It marks the North edge of campus and is accessible via the [[U Bus Route]] for those who decide to live on south campus. Additionally, the [[RU Bus Route]] stops one street down from Franklin, and the [[P2P: Point to Point]] can take you after 7 p.m. anyday of the week.
UNC Students flood Franklin St on three occassions: Halloween night, when we beat Duke in basketball, and when we win the National Championship. Cars sometimes get flipped over and bonfires are always lit in the street after huge victories over Duke in basketball. The whole street gets closed down to allow for these celebrations. They are certainly events you won't want to miss.
Be sure take a tour through the [[Restaurants]] on Franklin as well.

There are two main dining halls, Rams and [Lenoir]<c1|, on campus as well as the [Agora]<c2| in Granville Towers (otherwise known as the Ag).
(click: ?c1)[Lenoir is located in the center of campus next to [[the Pit]]. There are two floors in Lenoir. The second level of the building is only for students with a meal plan. You will eat here for orientation. However, the bottom (ground level) of Lenoir is open to all students and includes many tasty options including Chick-fil-a, [[Med Deli]] (student fave), Healthy Bowl, Subway, or Sushinara. However, many of these options are only open during weekdays for lunchtime ([[Bottom of Lenoir hours]]). It is a great place to stop for a bite to eat between classes.]
(click: ?c2)[The Agora has the best variety and quality of food out of these three dining halls, however it has it's strengths and weaknesses. Main campus dining halls have better sandwiches, sushi, and burrito bowls. Many students think that a meal plan here is restricted to Granville residents, but anyone can buy one.]

UNC puts together so many exciting events on campus, especially within your first few weeks on campus. To keep track of them all, join the UNC Groups Page on Facebook. You will need your Sakai username and password to join this group page.
Make sure you go to FallFest after the convocation ceremony. There will be SO much free food and prizes, so bring a backpack and huge purse. Last year, one vendor was giving out full 8-packs of soda bottles and water bottles. As a college kid, it's always good to be stocked with as much [[free food]] and snacks as possible.
In addition, you should attend a good amount of Carolina sporting events. The Carolina fan base is very passionate. Being a part of the student section rooting for your team is an unforgettable experience. Also, there will often be free t-shirts given out to the first few hundred people to show up at certain games. Who doesn't love free t-shirts and Carolina athletics?
Finally, always check out what's going on in [[the Pit]] for the upcoming activities.

[[Bus Routes]]
Do not be scared to use the bus system. It definitely takes a few rides to figure out, but it will come in handy on a rainy or lazy day. Here's the steps to take as a begineer bus rider:
Step one: Download the app "TransLoc Rider." In the app store, it will appear as the icon below.

You can use this to search any destination and it will tell you exactly which bus stop to go to, which bus to hop on, when the bus will arrive, and how long it will take you to get somewhere. You can also select any route and track where the buses are along the route.
Also, keep in mind that all these buses are completely free!
Here are the bus routes that circle around campus:
[[U Bus Route]]
[[RU Bus Route]]
[[P2P: Point to Point]]
In addition, there are some bus routes that will take you to Southpoint, the nearby shopping mall, or NC State University. Keep in mind that these routes may cost extra.

There are groups you can join such as: UNC Lost & Found, UNC Ride Share for when you need a lift to somewhere like NC State, a Free & For Sale page with great deals on furniture and clothes sold by students, and so many other useful pages.
-Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays are the designated party days for UNC. Wednesdays and Fridays are for [Duke]<band1|. Benny Capella's hours are even extended on Tuesday and Thursday nights to accomodate for student's late night pizza cravings.
-Don't be afraid to talk to people or make friends during the first week. People are most friendly at this time and want to meet new people.
-Take advantage of the libraries. You will get A LOT more done there than in your dorm.
-Do not laugh at people who trip on bricks. You will likely trip on at least one of the hundreds of loose bricks on campus. Take one if you can.
-Get as much [[free food]] as possible in the first few weeks. Bring tupperware wherever you go.

First of all, recognize that a college curriculum, especially UNC, is more rigorous than high school classes. Also, professors have different expectations. Go to office hours and talk to them about the course material to understand their method of analysis or understanding.
When it comes to the textbooks required for a certain class, don't always get exactly what the student stores says you need. Attend the class first to get the full story on required textbooks. On [the first day]<band1| you will not need your textbook and often professors will tell you a better way to access the material they want you to have for their course. Also, check out your UNC class page on Facebook to see if any other students are selling their textbooks.
Finally, take a drink of water from the [[Old Well]] on the first day of classes each semester to ensure that you get a 4.0.
