Pinterest and Gender, Class, Ethnicity, and Social Groups

Depending on the broadness or specification of the search, there was potential for a strong correlation between gender and location in my data collection. I believe the data scraping too just helped exemplify what is already known to us, which is hat we are being tracked and monitored to provide suitable content for users to maintain interest.

Pinterest and Identity

I saw a strong correlation between what kinds of posts were presented to me based on my identity, whether I was a 38 year old man or 19 year old girl. As soon as I made the male account I was immediately presented with pictures of males and sports photographs that do not appear on my feed. What we are shown is reliant on our identity as we shape the platform to ourselves.

Pinterest and Data Literacy

I think the platform is very easy to use and is meant to appeal to people of all ages as it is founded on connecting people through their interests. However, I do still believe and agree with the argument made in one of our reading articles that the platform is geared towards women. The vast majority of the users are women, and using the platform often allows it to customize to you and create an easy and welcoming place for its account holders.

Thoughts on Vertical Video

I had actually forgotten that the video needed to be made in vertical format as I am accustomed to landscape, and by the time I finished the video I realized my mistake. I tried to use programs like Adobe Rush to create the vertical video and one attempt that I thought had fixed the format or at least improved it actually made the video so small in the center of the screen that the content could not be seen, so rather than uploading the barely visible video I uploaded the landscape version where everything is at least visible. I apologize for the misunderstanding and my lacking computer skills.
