McGrail Pinterest Video Draft

I like the way you set up the piece with the anecdote. For the opening visuals, you might crop out the MS word interface and zoom in to just show the typing on the white background. The background music is working well to keep things moving along. You might drop down the volume a tiny bit while speaking. The visuals on screen are resonating well with the points in the narration.  The transition to the fake account is working well. For some of the scrolling segments and imagery showing Pinterest activity, you can use the speed adjustment to pick up the pacing a bit. You can also think about how you can use the other areas of the vertical canvas to complement things. Perhaps while scrolling is happening, a bit of text could appear in the black space guiding viewers with phrases that reiterate the gender of the searcher, some things about the results, or other details. You might add other visual elements in the space for emphasis--a tool box, etc. And you can vary where items appear. At about 2:05, you can work on the transition, fading out the music and smoothing things out. For the second musical clip, you can lower the volume a bit, especially while talking. At around 2:46, you can clean up the artifact from the Snagit menu at the top of the screen. At 2:50, the use of the canvass for juxtaposition is nice. As the scrolling plays out, you might again throw some text on screen to highlight the differences. At around 3:20, the transition to the word clouds might benefit from a bit more context--a quick explanation that you downloaded the data associated with the two searches and began to analyze it. Again, giving more presence to the narration and less volume to the music will help viewers take in the points more easily. If you do decide to rework this project, for the second set of word clouds, you might vary the approach. You could bring up one gender and the cloud in a portion of the canvas, and then maybe cycle a montage of images that reinforce the points about the cloud, you could then move on to the next gender and do the same. The transition to the discussion of the articles is working well. You can fade out the music at the end. I feel like you are developing a nice feel for working in the video format. This has a nice sense of storytelling to it and really does well at using the gender differences to develop an exploration of the varied search results. A bit more work with some of the technical and compositional aspects of the piece will take it to the next level. Great work.
