Project Gutenberg began in 1971 and is now recognized as the oldest digital library. It is an open access platform that makes free eBooks publicly available. Most of the books in Project Gutenberg's database are older works of literature, although some historical documents are available as well. For this project, I will focus on Project Gutenberg because I am interested in digitization as an effort to increase public access to literature.
