Thursday 3-5

Today we will begin working on our individual podcasts. We will start by reviewing the assignment

As we work, you will want access to the recorded files from our class performances:

Accessibility, Digital Divides, and Disabilities

Surveillance, AI, Algorithms

Data and Privacy

Insularity

You can also use this link to get to the raw files for your group.

In addition to these files, you should work with your group to get access to other recordings--practice sessions, clips, etc. We will use our 15 minutes of group time today to work on these logistics and brainstorm with one another about these next steps.

In class today, we will conduct hands on work with Audacity. Here are some steps and resources:

  • Download and install the FFMPEG library.
  • Learn to import audio: music sample, (Road to Tutu by Martijn de Boer)
  • Learn to cut and move segments.
  • Learn to move and rename tracks.
  • Learn to adjust volume using the envelope tool.
  • Learn to clean up spikes using the pencil tool.
  • Learn some of the basic effects--Amplify, Noise Reduction, Normalize.
  • Learn about the file structure of Audacity.

Here are some resources for gathering audio materials.
