Today, we will review the portfolio video assignment.

Next, we will talk about storyboard and narration. There is an organic process to developing a solid narrative for a portfolio video. I will demonstrate with some quick narration recording.

We will next spend a few minutes learning some new aspects of Adobe RUSH. For that, follow these steps:

Open the test project that you were working on last class period.

1) Add a title at the beginning.

2)  Download this arrow image. Note for these images to work, they need to have a transparent background in png format.

Bring the arrow into your Adobe RUSH project and position it where you need.

3) Faking transitions. Use the view adjustment feature of the timeline:

Grab Scale

Scale up the timeline so that you can see the clips you have just added with some duration on the timeline.

Cut a clip into a segment that you want to zoom in on for detailed discussion. Scale that clip so that it fills the screen well. Notice the jump from one size to another.

Now zoom in even further and cut the initial segments of the zoomed clip into four or five small pieces. Adjust scale again on all the pieces to mimic a scale transition. Use a cross dissolve transition to smooth the effect.

4) Create a call out swatch for emphasis

Add a solid background (Title) to the timeline. Use the Edit options on the Title window to add a drop shadow and change the color of the swatch.

Add text or some other element to the swatch.

5) Add narration by using the + sign at the top left.

Once you have experimented with these moves, you can use any remaining time to work on your storyboard. Remember you can download the template here.

For homework, complete your storyboard and submit it before class on Monday using the portfolio video storyboard option. Note that you can sketch out prompts for the narration at this point, or you can compose a concrete script.
