Today, we will try some improv video composing. Follow these steps:

First, download this image and open it on your computer.

Next, open our class web site, and then resize your browser window so it is roughly the shape of the downloaded image.

Next, open your Twitter Report by selecting it from this list.

Next, select the Revisions tab, and then the first version of your report. (Note, if you have not made any revisions, you will have to just select the first instance.) While you have this draft of the report open, identify a passage that you have something to say about in terms of the development of the project, the Twitter conversation, or your learning.

Next, open the Snagit program and configure it to capture the web browser window, and then start recording.

Next, scroll through the draft of the Twitter report, pausing on a passage that you want to discuss.

Next, stop the recording of the screen, and then using Snagit, save the file in mp4 format.

Next, open Adobe RUSH, and import the video clip that you have just created.

Next,

  1. Use the split tool (lower left) to cut up the clip. Work quickly, splitting, and then moving the playhead, chopping and deleting boring chunks to get smaller pieces of action.
  2. You can also grab the end of clips to trim their duration.
  3. Make sure you have cut the clip into at least a couple of pieces, and then use the speed control tool--right-hand menu, to adjust the pace of the clips.
  4. Through all of this cutting and adjustment, create at least a 15 second "linger" on the passage you want to highlight and edit the clip as a whole so it is 30 seconds long.

Next, use the Title tool (upper right) to add a statement about the clip. You can use words related to your thinking as you selected the passage Edit the font size, etc.

Next, download one of these clips

  1. Next, add the clip to the project. + sign
  2. Test the project with the audio track, and then delete it and try one or more others.
  3. Try different audio tracks until you have one you like.

When finished, spend a few minutes fine tuning anything, and then use the Share option, Local to save the project as an mp4 file.
