...I feel like a brown bag of miscellany proped against a wall. Against a wall in
company with other bags, white, red and yellow. Pour out the contents and there
is discovered of small things priceless and worthless..." Zora Neale Hurston
The South
The South may encompass less than half of America, but the southern culture has
inspired a wealth of prose and poetry that is relished by the whole World. As a
small survey of the great writers of the southern experience, this section of our
on-line anthology will cover selected works by Zora Neale Hurston, William
Faulkner, Flannery OÍconner and Langston Hughes. A unique perspective of the
gateways and obstacles of the southern way of life is realized by each of the
authors. (David Freeman)
